Bushniwa: Blue Fin Tuna Cutting Show – August 14, 2022

It’s not every day you watch an expert sushi chef slicing up a 300 pound bluefin tuna right in front of your eyes and creating a fantastic feast on the spot.

Chef Kuni will be demonstrating his extraordinary knife skills only selected few possess in this exhibition. Unlimited and thoughtfully prepared food and drink will be served from 3 – 8 pm. Come and celebrate with us in a unique way that you can brag about.

Kuni started his extensive career as an apprentice at the famous Tokyo Tsukiji Fish Market in the late 1980s where he learned how to clean and butcher a whole fish ranging from some as small as a needle fish to a monster fish such as a few hundred pounds bluefin tuna. After decades of improving and perfecting his sushi skills, Kuni—along with co-owner Robert —opened BUSHNIWA in Bushwick in 2018. The name of the restaurant itself is a combination of the words “Bushwick” and “niwa” which means garden in Japanese. The garden aspect of the name is highlighted in the décor and aesthetic of the restaurant, from the exposed brick walls to the plants placed strategically throughout the restaurant.
